Tetradecanedioic acid

Tetradecanedioic acid is a long-chain dicarboxylic acid produced by ω-oxidation of fatty acids, an auxiliary lipid-catabolic pathway upregulated when mitochondrial β-oxidation becomes saturated during prolonged exertion. Salivary dicarboxylic acids therefore mark the engagement of overflow fat-oxidation pathways under high endurance energy demand. Shi et al. (2020) reported significant elevation of dicarboxylic acids reflecting enhanced ω-oxidation in runners following a marathon.
