γ-Tocopherol

γ-Tocopherol is a major dietary form of vitamin E that, in addition to chain-breaking antioxidant activity, scavenges reactive nitrogen species that α-tocopherol does not efficiently neutralise. Salivary γ-tocopherol contributes to the lipid-phase antioxidant reserve buffering the oxidative and nitrosative stress of exercise. Finaud et al. (2006) reviewed the tocopherols among the antioxidant defences shaping the training oxidative-stress response.
